IRAN. Recent arrests in France of members of the Iranian armed opposition group, Mujaheddin-e Khalq (MKO), are allegedly part of the commercial package agreed by France and the Islamic Republic of Iran. According to Iranian opposition sources in emigre, this deal will allow the French company, Total Fina, to extract $650 million worth of Iranian oil.
The news of this deal was released by the Student Movement Coordinating Committee for Democracy in Iran (SMCCDI), quoting sources close to the Iranian regime.
The Iranian authorities earlier welcomed a crackdown on MKO members and denied striking a deal with France. Mariam Rajavi, one of the MKO leaders, was arrested in France on June 21 together with ten other senior members of this group on charges of terrorism. The MKO, which ideology is a mix of Marxism and Islam, has been active on the territory of France since the 1980s.
