Iran seen as gas supplier to Persian Gulf Bloomberg - World News Dec 15, 2007, 04:09 SMCCDI Note: Please read the Movement's point of view and position, in reference to any gas deal made with the UAE or with any Arab country of the Persian Gulf region, at: http://daneshjoo.org/article/publish/article_2397.shtml ----- Abu Dhabi : Iran may become a "major" gas supplier to neighbouring Persian Gulf states even as the US pushes for more sanctions against the Islamic republic, the head of an Abu Dhabi state-controlled energy company said.
Abu Dhabi National Energy Co is holding "preliminary discussions with Iran about gas being landed in the United Arab Emirates," chief executive Peter Barker-Homek said Thursday. The UAE needs the gas to fuel its power plants, he said. At a meeting of Persian Gulf heads of state in Qatar on December 3, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad offered to supply countries including the UAE and Saudi Arabia with gas and water in a bid to strengthen regional ties and free the area of "foreign influence". Meanwhile, the US is seeking support for a third round of UN sanctions against Iran over its refusal to suspend uranium enrichment. |
