The Islamic republic regime has increased the security measures at the approach of the anniversary of July 9th Students Uprising of 1999. Nerveless, many Iranian students will commemorate, in various ways, the anniversary of July 9th, while avoiding to provide any opportunity to few adventurers who are seeking to surf the legacy of the 1999 Epic.
Hundreds of Islamic regime's special agents and anti-riot troops have been notified to be ready in order to enter in action in case of need, and the surveillance of students and their activities have been increased in Iranian universities. 'Sensitive security operations' have been planned around the Amir-Abad Students Dorms and the Tehran university - where the uprising started and where were the scenes of bloody crackdown resulting in several deaths and tens of wounded - as well as, at Hamedan, Tabriz and Esfahan universities.
These measures have been adopted while there's no prospect, this year, of any real sizable protest action due to the expected effects of the ill-policies of some opportunistic abroad opposition groups or some LA based dissident media. Many Iranians and especially students are disgusted by the persistent illegitimate efforts, undertaken, by controversial sources, in order to promote an immature and artificial leadership for the Iranian Student Movement or Iranians' Nationalistic and Secularist aspiration.
The same problem has arised also abroad and never the Iranian Diaspora has been so split on the issue, as it's this year.
Tries of high jacking the legacy of July 9th, by some opposition groups and some American think tanks, have lead to various reactions and contradictory talks on most Iranian TV satellite and radio networks. As an alarming example, less than 90 individuals gathered, on July 6 in Los Angeles, in order to attend a meeting qualified as organized by a leadership for Iranian students. Los Angeles is home to over half a million Iranians and was a bastion of opposition to the Islamic regime gathering each time several thousands of demonstrators.
The same controversial sources are believed to be using of their influence, in order to try to block or to undermine the activities of genuine and trusted Iranian opposition groups. They hope, by using tactics, such as censorship, to be able to promote faces in the name of Iranian opposition that would endorse their agenda.
Such illegitimate actions and their resulting reactions, by many Iranians, have fueled the negative trend which, as it was predicted and warned by the SMCCDI, will only benefit the Islamic regime in long run. The Movement, in an effort to avoid giving to such games that would not benefit the genuine Iranian secularist student movement, has refused, this year, to participate in any kind of TV or radio program, or to call for any participation in any kind of protest action at the occasion of the anniversary of July 9th.
The Epic of July 9, 1999, struck when security forces of the Islamic regime broke into the dormitories of the students at Amir-Abad. Next, the students were surprised by violent attacks of the regime's security forces, some were shot and thrown several stories from the balconies and many were violently beaten.
What came next was the vicious beaten of hundreds of students by the security forces of the Islamic Republic, the thugs who sometimes even are in civilian attire. Several students, such as Ezzat Ebrahim-nejad, will be killed by the security apparatus.
This tragic event was the basis for the mass demonstration which followed and lasted for 5 days. Several hundreds of students were beaten, many lost their lives, and many ended up in the regime's dungeons where they're still being kept.
