ANKARA - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who has sought to ease tensions over Iran’s nuclear activities, will visit Tehran next week to discuss bilateral ties, his office said Friday.
During his visit on Monday and Tuesday, Erdogan will meet with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, his office said in a statement.
“Regional and international issues will be discussed during this visit,” it said, adding that, before heading to Iran, Erdogan would visit Pakistan on Sunday and Monday.
Turkey, a NATO member, has in recent years improved ties with Iran, its eastern neighbour, and sought to help resolve the nuclear dispute between its Western allies and Tehran.
