BRUSSELS -- The European Parliament (EP) called on Iran Thursday to release all prisoners arrested in the demonstrations that followed the June 2009 elections and respect press freedom.
The EP adopted a resolution on the human rights situation in Iran condemning "the massive and excessive use of force, arbitrary arrests and possible torture to repress protest movements." The EP wants the International Committee of the Red Cross be permitted to see all political prisoners, without exception.
The resolution also condemns death sentences and executions in Iran, and in particular those passed or enforced on juvenile delinquents or minors.
