  Dear Madame Secretary,

On behalf of the Student Movement Coordination Committee for Democracy in Iran (SMCCDI), I wish to offer you our congratulations on your recent confirmation as Secretary of State.

SMCCDI's constant public support for the President, his correct vision, and his policies, has been consistently well founded. We offer our thanks, support and
best wishes as well to you and all the good people at the Dept. of State who strive to implement his policy, promote freedom and conduct diplomacy in these difficult and dangerous times.

These are times of hope and opportunity as well for both our peoples. Both you and the president have set the course for the future in your welcomed public statements.

America will have no better friend beside her on this road to freedom and a more prosperous world than the Iranian people in the months and years to come. It is our hope that just as your own opportunity has come about through civil rights reforms, that you will illuminate the plight of women in our country and across the Middle East who still suffer under gender apartheid conditions, and that no more can women be relegated to "the back seat" of society.

Many occupations and areas of study are forbidden to them despite the regime's claims that 63% of students are women.
Therein lies many of our future professionals and civic leaders, but only if they are given the chance now denied them under repressive and discriminatory theocratic laws.

We have struggled long for freedom and liberty, seeking to free ourselves from the yolk of tyranny that the Islamic Republic regime has burdened us with and we sincerely appreciate the efforts of the Department of State in shining a brilliant spotlight on the international terrorism, human rights abuses, and atrocities that are conducted daily by this evil regime. In particular, we thank as well the people of the Department's Iranian Security desk in these ongoing efforts.

  Madame Secretary,

There have been times in the past where the Islamic Republic regime has seized upon comments made by the former Secretary, and his Deputy Secretary, sowing confusion among the population as to America's resolve to support the legitimate aspirations of our people, with the intent to drive a wedge between the supporters of freedom, and those who hope to obtain it.

In the attached letter to the president * you will find a request for dialogue on multiple suggestions put forth in it, but to address this particular concern, it is incumbent on all of us to be unequivocally clear in our mutual understanding.

SMCCDI would ask therefore that a line of communication be opened with the US Department of State to address any future questions on policy that may arise, so to foster clear understanding between the US government and the Iranian people through the contact that we and other non-violent opposition groups have inside Iran. In this way we can defeat the deception tactics of this outpost of tyranny, and foster good relations between our two peoples.

  Madame Secretary,

In your welcoming remarks to the employees of the Dept. of State you issued a call for ideas, and instituted an "open door" policy. We share the same mission you gave to them in the promotion of freedom. It is our hope that you will extend that offer of an open door for ideas as well to the Iranian people as reflected in SMCCDI's attached letter to President Bush. Our hope is that the Iranian solutions contained within it may be duly considered and found viable, rational and essential to solving the problems of the region.

We Iranians are a proud and often emotional people, but we are pragmatic as well. We have striven in our legitimate aspirations for liberty for over two decades, and often frustrated as the pace of those aspirations seem to be like that of traveling on the back of a snail. The vast majority have therefore concluded that any real democratic reform though legitimate election or national referendum on the
people's choice for a secular political structure in Iran, cannot be possible so long as this evil ideological regime continues in power.

While our aspirations include taking our future into our own hands, we are convinced after this long in a most pragmatic way, that those aspirations cannot be obtained in isolation or silence, we need the entire international community firmly by our people's side in word and deed if the agenda the president has laid out is to become manifest in Iran.
This does not require military intervention, nor do we ask for, or seek this in any form. The method of civil disobedience as outlined in the attached letter, and the prayers of suggestion that we hope will become manifest therein; will serve to liberate our people from tyranny and the blind ambitions of the theocratic regime in a rather short period of time, if they are implemented in full, and in a coordinated and simultaneous manner.

It is our people's belief that the time has come to reverse the public isolation of the Iranian people's aspirations, and in turn publicly and physically isolate the Islamic Republic regime.

  Madame Secretary,

Indeed, bold agendas often require bold steps to achieve them, as well as bold ideas and brave hearts to promote their success. Those that stand in the way, or nay-say the self evident truth of the president's correct vision have yet to reckon with, and badly underestimated the resolve of the Iranian people and indeed, the resolve of the President himself.

May the winds of good fortune always be with you wherever your travels lead you, and may providence always smile on your efforts in diplomacy.

  Ba Sepaas,
  (With gratitude)

  On behalf of SMCCDI,

Aryo B . Pirouznia (Movement Coordinator)
